Why we built RF Novus

A returning RF Online veteran from Jakarta on why this server exists: classic 2232, Race Wars, no pay-to-win, and a Discord that actually answers in Bahasa.

Announcement May 14, 2026 @ ~2 min read

I've been playing RF Online on and off since 2007. Most of you reading this probably have a version of the same story — Lyto era, a guild that meant something, late-night Race War sieges, and then one day the server you cared about either died or stopped feeling like the game you signed up for.

I'm Rimba. I'm based in Jakarta, and I built RF Novus because every other 2232 private server I tried over the last few years did one of three things: died inside 60 days, quietly turned pay-to-win, or went radio-silent the moment anyone tried to ask a question in Indonesian. I got tired of waiting for someone else to do this properly, so I'm doing it.

What this server is

RF Novus is the classic 2232 patch — the build most veterans agree is the best version of RF Online before the game lost the plot. Three-faction Race War on the original 8-hour cycle. Mining at the Crag Mine. Chip Wars that mean something. The combat numbers and class balance you remember, not whatever the late-stage retail patches turned it into.

The pledges

Two things I'm putting in writing on day one. First: no pay-to-win, ever. The cash shop will exist — I have to keep the lights on — but it ships with cosmetics, convenience items (extra inventory tabs, name changes, that kind of thing), and nothing that touches power. No cash-shop weapons. No cash-shop armor with stats. No PvP-affecting buffs. If you can buy it and it makes your character stronger in a fight, it doesn't ship.

Second: the Discord and the patch notes are bilingual, and the GMs are actually in Jakarta. When you message support in Indonesian at 11pm, a human who lives in your timezone reads it. When something breaks on a Saturday night, someone is awake.

Launch posture

I'm opening as a closed beta first. Limited slots, invitation through Discord, the goal is to stress-test the economy and find what breaks before a wider audience shows up. Once the server has proven it can stay up, the gates open. I'd rather launch slow and clean than launch loud and crash inside a week.

If you played RF Online between 2007 and 2012 and you miss what it felt like — the rivalries, the long sieges, the feeling that your guild actually mattered — you're who we built this for. Come find us on Discord.
